SANTA ROSA ISLAND

June 2021

DAY ONE: TORREY PINES

Early Friday morning we took a ferry from Ventura Harbor out to Santa Rosa island. The campground is about a 1.5 mile hike from the pier. We set up camp and realized the wind shelters are there for good reason. After lunch we hiked along the coastal path to the Torrey Pines loop. In the evening the winds really picked up at the campsite, making for a miserable early night all around.

DAY TWO: LOBO CANYON

On Saturday we woke to calm and clear skies. We packed lunches and hiked across a ridge to Lobo Canyon, a beautiful hike through a sandstone canyon, ending at a quiet beach. Later we headed back to camp for another gusty evening.

DAY THREE: BEACH CEVICHE

Sunday was another beautiful day. After breakfast, we hiked back to the pier to drop gear and then spent a couple hours at the beach. Back on the ferry, we pulled into the painted cave on the coast of Santa Cruz island before returning to Ventura.
