KAUAI

June 2022

PART 1: QUEEN'S BATH AND SHAVE ICE

After landing in Kauai we stocked up on groceries and hit the beach. For the first couple days we stayed around Princeville and ate poke and shave ice in Hanalei. We also hiked down to Queen's bath for a swim. Snorkeling was great at Tunnels Beach, where we saw rays and turtles in the reef just offshore.

PART 2: KALALAU TRAIL

Next, we hiked the Kalalau Trail through the Napali Coast. We were lucky enough to get permits for the eleven mile trail, with four days to explore the beaches and valley. We camped the first night at mile six, then started day two by crossing the infamous Crawler's Ledge section. At the end, we enjoyed a secluded beach below the steep Napali coastline peaks. For two nights we splashed around in a freshwater cave, tasted wild mango and coconut, and swam in the valley's Big Pool. On day four we hiked out the full eleven miles and enjoyed a round of Mai Tais back in Hanalei.

PART 3: KAYAKS AND WAIMEA CANYON

After the hike, we had a few more days to enjoy the island. We rented kayaks and paddle boards and paddled up the Wailua river to secret falls. The next day we drove to Waimea Canyon for beautiful views and some light off-roading. On the last day we ordered poke and spent the day at the Kalapaki Beach.
