LOST COAST TRAIL

July 2020

SONOMA

We reserved permits for the Lost Coast Trail back in November 2019, way before the COVID-19 pandemic took over. With shutdowns, we weren't sure if we would be able to go until just a few weeks before the trip. We were really lucky to be able to keep the permit and enjoy a bit of escape from quarantine, if only for a few days. On the road north we spent the night in Sonoma and stopped at a few wineries along the way.

LOST COAST

The Lost Coast Trail is a 25 mile stretch of rugged California coastline in Humboldt County. We spent 3 days hiking south along the coast, walking on black sand beach, coastal bluffs, and fields of boulders. In some areas, the trail is covered during high tide and can only be crossed when the tide has receded. We had great weather and tides - though the hike was difficult. Along the way we ran into sea lions, elephant seals, sea otters, and a few rattlesnakes.
