SEDONA

April 2022

THURSDAY

We drove out to Sedona late on Wednesday to meet Jenna and Nick. In the morning we took a short hike up to Sugarloaf Peak for views of Capital Butte and Coffee Pot Rock. After lunch, we tasted some wines from the Verde Valley and explored the towns of Cottonwood, Jerome, and Page Springs.

FRIDAY

On Friday we packed lunches and hiked the Boynton Canyon trail. We first stopped off at the Boynton vortex (Sedona is famous for its "vortexes" that are rumored to channel a special energy). We continued on the trail and detoured again to the Subway Cave on our way to the end of the canyon. In the afternoon we took a scenic drive out to Oak Creek Vista and then grilled dinner at our Airbnb.

SATURDAY

In the morning we grabbed coffees and then headed out in the Jeep for some off-roading. We visited the Honanki Heritage Site, a cliff dwelling inhabited by the Sinagua around 1200 CE, and also saw a Mojave Green rattlesnake. From there, we drove the Outlaw OHV Trail for beautiful views and a few fun technical sections. Afterward we ate lunch and had cocktails at the Mesa Grill right next to Sedona Airport.

SUNDAY

On the last day, we had breakfast and then visited the Montezuma Castle National Monument, another cliff dwelling inhabited by Sinagua people a thousand years ago. Then we hit the road for the long drive back to LA.
